Today’s auto repair facilities are expected to have the necessary equipment to properly repair your vehicle. we have listed some of the more specialized and complicated equipment that we use every day to service your vehicles. While I’m the first to admit that descriptions of test equipment are not for everyone, for those of you that are interested in some of what Ervine’s has in our garage, look below. If you have more questions about anything related to our equipment feel free to call and inquire.
The Vetronix GM Service Programming System enables our technicians to reprogram the on board computers found in some 1995 and all 1996 and later General Motors Vehicles. We’re proud to offer this service that was once a dealer only service at expensive dealer prices. This procedure can in many cases improve fuel economy, increase performance, lower emissions, improve transmission shifting, a/c performance and many other less noticeable items. The reprogramming feature is only one part of the Vetronix Mastertech tester. We can also access ABS, (anti-lock brakes), obtain full data, bi-directionally trigger components, and perform bleed sequences on valve assemblies and much more. Other features allow transmission access and SRS, (supplemental restraint systems), also known as air bag access. The Mastertech is not only updateable with new cartridges, but also reprogrammable as well, at Ervine’s we consider being on the cutting edge an absolute necessity in order to properly service today’s very high-tech and expensive vehicles.
The Tech II is an OE Scan tool for all General Motors products. It supplies on-board diagnostics through current model vehicles. The Tech II’s bi-directional controls that allow us to perform all power train, chassis and body diagnostics as required by General Motors. We also can program all computers on your car or truck with updated software from General Motors to address problems or improve drive ability and gas mileage using the Tech II. We are linked directly to GM for our information and download your vehicles specific info to accurately diagnose your vehicle with the latest updates for your cars computer.
The IDS Scan tool (Integrated Diagnostic Software), is a Ford OE testing device. It is laptop based and allows full diagnostics, bi-directional control of power train, chaises and body hardware. The capabilities are vast and no other scan tool comes close to it. This is the dealer level scan tool. We can program all computers and update all software as for releases improvements on an almost daily basis. We are linked directly to Ford for our information and download your specific vehicle updates from them.
Snap On Scanner
The Snap-On scan tool is another scanner in our shop that is designed for almost as much capability as the Vetronix Scanner but does have some limitations in controlling different components bi-directionally. Its stronger suit is the foreign vehicles; virtually all are supported and is a very important tool in our shop. The Snap on Scanner is also updated regularly with renewable software.
Vantage Power Graphing Meter
This particular tester is a Graphing Digital Multi-meter with a diagnostic database. All domestic and almost all foreign vehicles are supported; we get onscreen information for sensors, actuators and control signal testing. The database automatically configures to each component, setting parameters, listing test sequences and acceptable values, this tester works very well in conjunction with either scanner after a particular component is suspected of failure, we prefer this approach to what is the usual procedure ant many repair shops of replacing parts and hoping for the best.
Motorvac Fuel system Cleaning System
The Motorvac Fuel Injection Cleaning System uses a special cleaning solution under pressure to clean the fuel injectors, pressure regulator, fuel rails, throttle body, intake runners, intake valves and the tips of the pistons. Disconnecting the fuel lines near the engine isolates the fuel pump from the process to protect it, the pump runs during this cleaning but fuel is looped back to the tank. The manufacturer recommends an annual cleaning, but we consider every 2 years being sufficient for most engines. Some rather severe running complaints, from poor idle, hesitation on acceleration, even check engine lights from engine misfire codes are cured by this cleaning process. Considering that on average a fuel injector costs about $150 for the part alone, adding labor and the real possibility that more than one will need replacing to cure the complaint, it doesn’t take a math major to figure out that cleaning is well worth the cost. Since we started using this piece of equipment about 10 years ago, we have not replaced a single fuel injector, with the exception of either electrical or mechanically failed injectors, both uncommon.
We access service procedures, labor rates, parts costs, technical service bulletins, manufacturers preventive maintenance schedules, and just about anything else information based through our partnership with ALLDATA. This has proved invaluable and indispensable when it comes to properly and quickly servicing today’s vehicles.
Our VW/Audi scan tool is perfect for diagnosing engine, ABS, A/C and many more problems on your Volkswagen or Audi through the current model year. This is a dealer level scan tool and can do virtually all the necessary diagnosing of your vehicle.
Other vehicle maintenance equipment
We use specific dedicated equipment to change the many different fluids on your vehicle. With cars and trucks exceeding 200,000 miles, all fluids require changing at regular intervals. This equipment along with our ALLDATA information system helps ensure your vehicle is serviced in a timely manner and will help to avoid premature failure of transmissions, power steering and braking systems.
Chelsea Vives: Awesome service!! They were extremely helpful and friendly! I loved how they were accommodating to the customers and being very organized with after hours drop-offs and pick-ups. They were also very quick with fixing my car which was great.
Andy Krafft: Ervine's has provided great service for me throughout my college years! They do their best to make time for customers and understand the importance and value in quality service. Would definitely recommend!
Erin O'Brien-Jenison: The staff is very friendly. The technicians take the time to explain repairs in detail. The loaner car service is very convenient for my family. Each of my experiences with Ervine's has been very positive.
Jamie Riehle: My car needed a lot of work and being relatively new to the area, I had to rely on online reviews. Ervine's got great feedback, so I made an appointment through their website. I was contacted almost immediately and scheduled very quickly. The repairs took a few days, but with the free loaner it was no big deal. They explained everything to me, helped me prioritize which repairs to do first, and Jamie even entertained my 5-year-old while I spent 10 minutes on the phone with my bank to get my payment to go through. I may have been able to find someplace a little cheaper, but you can't pay for the excellent customer service at Ervine's. The lobby is clean, has fresh coffee, and is very professional. As a woman I've been intimidated going into car shops but I never felt that way at Ervine's. I'll definitely be returning.
Kaitlin McDowell: I had a great experience at Ervine's. I know very little about my car beyond turning it on, so I was relieved when the staff were willing to spend extra time explaining to me exactly what is going on and helping me to be an informed consumer. I also appreciated that they are not trying to sell something-- I did not actually need the repair that the dealership had told me to IMMEDIATELY deal with, and the folks at Ervine's were willing to tell me that when they could have made a buck doing the repair. The visit was so painless I even got to run errands while I was waiting using one of their fabulous loaner cars. Thank you so much!
